own and get approvals from both the government case workers and the
properties management. Sharing rental housing such as apartments and houses
is an alternative for those who are on limited government subsidies, and the
underemployed working class. We match tenants with co-tenants if they cannot
afford to pay the entire rent. The properties which tend to have vacancies are
willing to allot spaces since they are assured by the direct mailing of rent
cheques from the government, which we arrange by written or verbal request to
case workers with the full approval of the clients/tenants. We also include initial
mediation of minor tenancy disputes with the goal of maintaining the tenancy and
have a legal associate for major disputes to represent (or refer) for both the
tenant and property. Our goal is for the tenancy to continue for the sake of both
the tenants and the properties, by resolving any disputes, which may jeopardize
the tenancy.

RENTAL SPACES

The properties that showed an early interest in CASA P.O.W. Project are
estalished and have several buildings in Toronto. If you click on our website at
http://isart.freeyellow.com/casapowlogo.html (soon to be simplified to
http://casapow.net ), you will see those who have allotted rental units to us. They
provide the spaces; we provide the tenants to fill them. These high-rise buildings
have in-house staff for maintenance, security, and office to handle any building
problems. There is an intercom at the lobby and video surveillance in the entrance
and hallways to block intruders. The apartments have newly painted walls,
varnished floors, with working even new appliances and they are inspected prior
to tenancy (and after). All of them are on a 1-year lease, including utilities with
the rent, which makes it easier for tenants with limited budgets. Most of the
existing tenants are working and lower middle class singles and families.

POTENTIAL TENANTS

The Government often subsidizes for shelter and food, the following types of
tenants, sometimes including training and wages as well:

Unemployed
Underemployed
Disabled
Refugee
Immigrant
Student
Retired
