Rental Spaces
Psalm 61:Verses 1-4 (pluralized)
1 Hear our cries, O God; listen to our prayers.
2 From the ends of the earth, we call to you, we call as our hearts grow faint;
lead us to the rock that is higher than us.
3 For you have been our refuge, a strong tower against the foe.
4 We long to dwell in your tent forever, and take refuge in the shelter of your wings. Selah.
CASA P.O.W. Project
has potential tenants from various backgrounds by: culture, economics, education, religion and lifestyle. Renters often are constrained by a monthly budget with rent being the biggest portion. We serve both working and welfare classes in finding appropriate spaces for their next homes.
WORK
-- Tenants who work range from minimum wage singles earning $1000 month to couples earning about $2500 month on dual income. Anyone who earns more than that is probably saving to own property instead. Newly married couples, single parents, students, bachelor/ettes, newcomers, and self-employed are in this category.
WELFARE
-- Sometimes, this involves the agreement to share rent and space between subsidized tenants with limited budgets. Those on Basic Welfare often spend most of the $520 a month on rent, often sharing rent and space and thus, they go weekly to food banks for food. Whereas, those on Disability Welfare averaging $930 a month total can afford to rent on their own and even have extra to buy food. Sharing rent and space is practical for anyone on a limited income. The best deal for example, a three bedroom apartment $975 divided by 3 co-tenants = $325 each with utilities included; whereas a two bedroom apartment $925 divided by 2 = $462.50 each; a one bedroom $800 divided by 2 = $400 each. Unemployed, mentally or physically disabled, refugees, divorced, single parents, pensioners and students are in this group.
Of course it helps to know your apartment co-tenants before you move in, however, often complete strangers move in together to save money. At CASA P.O.W., we have a waiting list of potential co-tenants looking for someone to share rent and space with. Some are waiting in shelters, some are on the streets, and a few are leaving spaces where they had problems.
