Tenants


CASA P.O.W. tenants are from all different cultural, social and economic backgrounds. Most are subsidized by government for different reasons. Some are working part-time and are partially subsidized until employed full-time, but most are not. They all need help in getting living spaces which they rent month to month. We are here to assist them get those living spaces, courtesy of cooperative owners and managers who are kind enough to allot some of their units to our housing project. Of course, rent has to be paid regularly either fully by government, and/or partially by the tenants small incomes and since those on limited income are a credit risk to business, the tenants agreeing to direct payment of rent from the government welfare offices, makes it easier for properties to allow them to rent. In effect, the government acts similar to a guarantor or trustee, ensuring that rent is paid on time regularly on behalf of the client/tenant. Also, sharing rental costs with co-tenants in the same project makes rent affordable. Most are singles, but some are couples, single mothers & fathers, or families. Below is a table classifying the various types of tenants we try to include in our project:

Tenants who work as employees, or self-employed in business. Tenants who work part-time, seasonal, or on-call. Tenants who are able to work but not working temporarily. Tenants who attend school and are on loans or allowances. Tenants who are seniors and on government or company pension or savings. Tenants who are physically, mentally or socially disabled or on rehabilitation. Tenants who are new to Canada. Tenants who are seeking shelter in Canada.
